Project
The project covers all environmental, and health and safety (EH&S) aspects as they relate to ASICS’ supply chain.
Objectives
Development of:
- an EH&S supply chain materiality assessment for all of ASICS’ different product groups, including T1 and T2 and materials.
- an EH&S guideline for the ASICS team and its suppliers.
- an EH&S audit tool.
- an EH&S training
Achievements
The materiality assessment of the entire supply chain and for all EH&S aspects was conducted, differentiating for different product groups and for Tiers 1 and 2. The materiality assessment took into account the impacts, risks and opportunities, and the assessment was based on a thorough look at all the manufacturing processes for the different product groups. An EH&S guideline document was developed that was structured around a management system approach, developing guidance for all EH&S aspects and, respectively, general requirements and good practice. The guideline includes an introduction to management systems.
Furthermore, an EH&S audit approach and checklist were developed. The approach was outlined in detail in order to create a harmonized approach to auditing. The audit checklist included a brief self-assessment and a comprehensive list of questions that were precisely in line with the EH&S guideline document.
Finally, this training was developed to train the team and suppliers on the above items, with a focus on practical applications in the factory.
ASICS’ Statement
“ASICS takes all tasks involving its supplier base very seriously, as compliance with international safety and environmental working standards is of utmost importance to us. We are fully committed to working closely with our suppliers, workers, local organizations and other key relevant stakeholders to ensure safety and sound standards are respected and continually improved.
In order to structurally improve the sustainability conditions specifically in the Environmental field at ASICS entire supply chain worldwide, the ASICS supply chain CSR and environmental team has worked with Karin Ekberg over an extended period of time. Karin is a sustainability expert with a wealth of knowledge about supply chain strategies as well as hands-on supply chain work. We have spent time with Karin in some of our factories where our team has learnt how to understand the manufacturing flow and its sustainability impacts as well as how to work with the suppliers to guide them how to improve their environmental, health and safety performance.
ASICS values the partnership with Leadership & Sustainability, which is led by Karin Ekberg. The collaboration is a great approach which not only resulted in establishing an improved Environmental programme but also for ASICS supply chain and environmental team to gain value from the fruitful knowledge and experience from an industry expert.
Last but not least, ASICS is happy that the project has progressed to meet the roadmap and time-frame that we expected. We thank Karin Ekberg for her expertise to support ASICS with an efficiency dimension and to make the programme approaching where we should be in 2017.” – Lillian Tseng
