Project
Conduct a materiality assessment and benchmarking, and develop a sustainability strategy and implementation plan.
Objectives
The customer, a brand in the outdoor sector, was looking to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy for all sustainability aspects covering the entire value chain. Team members from all areas of the business were involved in this project.
The “Sustainability Strategy” project covered three phases:
- Explore the needs
- Materiality assessment
- Sustainability strategy development
Achievements
The overall generic business case to develop a sustainability strategy was developed and successfully accepted by management.
The materiality assessment covered the entire value chain, all sustainability aspects (environmental and social), and explored the impacts, risks and opportunities (the latter from a legal, financial, operational and brand-related perspective). In addition, a stakeholder mapping and overview was documented. Furthermore, benchmarking with the SAC (Sustainable Apparel Coalition) brand module was done for 8 outdoor and 4 workwear brands.
Subsequently, the sustainability strategy along with its goals and business cases were developed together with the company’s internal teams, as well as a vision and policy. The implementation plan covered areas such as an implementation schedule, a governance structure, a reporting structure, project charters and a change of management plan.
