Strengthen Your Sustainability Performance with a Higg BRM Verification

    By Vanderlei Ekberg | Allgemein | 0 comment | 12 February, 2025 | 16

Cascale’s (formerly SAC, the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s) Higg Brand & Retail Module (Higg BRM) is an essential tool for assessing sustainability performance across eleven key ESG impact areas. More recently, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) has instituted reporting structures and data point for reporting companies. This framework is very comprehensive. Cascale has conducted a mapping to ensure alignment between the BRM and the CSRD and furthermore, Cascale is updating the Higg BRM to enhance the alignment with the CSRD. At the same time, it is important to differentiate between the different purposes of the two tools. BRM is a strategy and assessment tool, helping brands and retailers to assess their current situation as well as their plan and to drive their strategy and improvements in their entire value chain. CSRD, conversely, is a reporting framework. These two tools complement each other.

    Expert-Led Higg BRM Verification

At Leadership & Sustainability, we offer expert-led Higg BRM Verifications. Our experienced verifiers conducting the verification always follow a structured process:  Reviewing the data and ensuring alignment with best practices in sustainability reporting. Our verification method includes a well-planned program together with the brand or the retailer, intensive study of all available documentation ahead of interviews with the sustainability teams and the different functions in the company. This is complemented with a simple tool to follow the verification process and allow for comments and data sharing along the process. This customized process strengthens the credibility of the results and enhances comparability across the industry.

    Why Verification Matters

As sustainability expectations continue to rise, Higg BRM Verification will play a crucial role in driving real change. Brands and retailers committed to transparency and accountability should prioritize verification to build stakeholder trust and advance industry-wide sustainability efforts.

“BRM verification ensures brand and retailer data captured on the Higg platform can be trusted by external stakeholders. The process is generally like other sustainability report assurance/verification processes and is based on standard assurance frameworks.” – Cascale

    The Benefits of Verification

✔ Enhances stakeholder trust through verified data
✔ Strengthens transparency in sustainability communication
✔ Ensures alignment with global industry standards
✔ Supports continuous improvement in sustainability strategies

Empower your business with a verified Higg BRM assessment – laying the foundation for a transparent and trustworthy sustainability communication.
